Friday 22nd January

Friday 22nd January 2021

Good afternoon everyone,

How lovely to see the sun back today. What could be nicer than a blue sky and a bright yellow sun?  It meant of course, that children could enjoy the outdoors much more and get plenty of fresh air in the wonderful sunshine.

The children in nursery had great fun having their outdoor scavenger hunt. You could try your own outdoor hunt on the weekend, in the park or garden. Children love hunting for things and today they raced around the garden trying to find everything on their list.

Meanwhile, indoors children were busy working on their special books and in red class the children had wonderful adventures with their own “mini me’s”

At Children’s House every child has their own mini me, the children can use them daily to talk about themselves, their friends and their families. They also use their mini me’s in wonderful rich imaginative play with the small world toys. They can become a zoo keeper, farmer, truck driver, and firefighter, visit friends in the doll’s house or host parties with their virtual friends.

Children currently at nursery will often play with the mini me of a friend still at home and it can be a source of comfort to children who are missing their friends.

At a time when everyone is missing loved ones and our youngest children don’t understand why they can’t visit friends & family, these mini me figures might just help them express these big emotions. Expressing feelings and acting out experiences through role play and small world play is something children do from a really young age and continue to do all the way through childhood. It helps process and regulate these emotions as well as digest and interpret experiences.

So let’s end the week with a lovely activity and get busy creating mini me’s of your child and their family and friends.

All you need to do is print out a photo of each person, stick it on to some card and attach it to a small brick, matchbox, or kitchen roll tube (cut to size).

You can see an example on the blog below.

Your child will really enjoy making and playing with their very own mini me and at a time when we can’t visit different places, you can role play taking the mini me to the zoo, to see a relative etc. the possibilities are endless.

Sadia is on the blog today discussing sorting objects by size and a ground floor friend has made her own Goldilocks and biscuits in the shape of Goldilocks and the three bears. Well done they look delicious.

You can also click on the link below for a five minute active work out with Joe Wicks.

Next week our book of the week is The Three Little Pigs as we continue with our focus on traditional Tales.

Have a lovely weekend and stay safe.
