Friday 4th December
Friday 4th December 2020
Good evening everyone,
I hope that you all received a text message today re: what to do if your child is showing symptoms of COVID. Do please follow the instructions in the text as it really will help us to keep everyone safe. Tests are quick and easy and if you go to a drive through or visit a walk in centre the results are back in 24 hours.
Today our youngest children had their sponsored cycle ride and we are so proud of them. Everyone managed to do at least ten laps. So a big well done and thank you.
We are so proud of the children.
This week there has been an extra focus on maths. Mathematics is just one of the ways in which young children learn to make sense of their world. Did you know that babies are born mathematical? Within the first year of life babies can recognize the difference between groups of one, two or three objects, actions or sounds.
This makes it all the more surprising that most adults have difficulty with maths.
You can help us to develop your child’s mathematical thinking at home by involving your child in simple everyday activities such as tidying toys into boxes and baskets, sorting clothes “this is daddy’s big shirt”, “this is the baby’s small one”, folding towels and talking about how the shape changes, cooking together, pass me two carrots, asking at meal times do you want one spoonful or two, tidying shoes into neat pairs, pairing socks together etc. There are so many fun things that you can do, so I think I will post a mathematical tip each week.
Kamran had a number hunt in the garden today and children talked about shape as they continued work on their rockets.
We have a busy two weeks ahead, here are some dates for your diaries:
Christmas Lunch and Jumper Day Wednesday 16th December, Christmas Party, Father Christmas and last day of term Thursday 17th December
Friday 18th December staff will be meeting and greeting the new children starting in January. Leavers starting at Old Palace in January are invited to visit.
Have a lovely weekend.
