Monday 1st November

Monday 1st November 2021

Good afternoon everyone,

It was lovely to see all the children back today and we hope that you all had a good half-term break. Today we welcomed a new student. Eki will be with us for weeks while Mirka has gone to Virginia for four weeks. We feel very fortunate to be a teaching school and able to offer first hand learning experiences for the next generation of teachers.

The children enjoyed an exciting visit today from one of our ex pupils. Intisar came to Children’s House ten years ago and we are very proud to say that she is now the young deputy mayor of Tower Hamlets.

She talked to the children about her new role and asked them what they would like to see in the borough. The children had some very good ideas including: more exciting play equipment in the local park suitable for young children, nice shops in Stroudely Walk, healthy cafes, more open spaces, allotments where children can grow things and visits in school from the people who help us.

I think you will agree that they gave our deputy mayor plenty to think about.

This half-term in school the children are exploring light and dark. As the clocks went back this weekend, the nights are starting to draw in and the hours of daylight are decreasing. We find children are fascinated by this subject and really deep learning can take place.

Today children learnt how sun gives us light and they had the opportunity to set up black out tents in the classroom which they could then explore with torches.

In addition there was some lovely imaginative play taking place in the garden where a queen was holding court with her courtiers.

Have a lovely evening.
