Monday 8th February

Monday 8th February 2021

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope that you all had a good weekend and were able to enjoy the snow. As you can imagine the children were really excited in nursery today and couldn’t wait to get out to play.

Monday 8th February 2021

During this cold weather please do make sure that your child has a warm coat, a hat, scarf and gloves. Children love to be out in the snow but they must be wrapped up warmly.

Today children enjoyed scooping up the snow, looking at snowflakes, exploring melting and discovering frozen ice.

Our story of the week is The Three Billy Groats Gruff. You will find today’s home learning plan on the blog below. You can listen to Sam read the story and try some of the activities listed. How about making a bridge strong enough to hold a toy animal?

This week we are also learning about Chinese New Year. This starts on Friday 12th February.

The Chinese New Year, also called Spring Festival, is the most important and widely celebrated festival of all in China. It is celebrated from the 1st day of the 1st lunar month to the 15th day of the 1st lunar month. The final (15th) day is called the Lantern Festival, and the night before the 1st day is called Chinese New Year's Eve (Chuxi in Chinese pinyin). This is a time for family reunions, visiting relatives and friends and exchanging greetings for the coming New Year. It is also a time to ring out the old and ring in the new. The Chinese New Year can also be called "Guonian" which means the passing of the old year to the new one. This festival emphasizes the importance of family ties. The dinner gathering of Chinese New Year's Eve is the most important family occasion of the year.

This year it is the year of the ox. On the blog below there is a Cbeebies short film about Chinese New Year and a Dragon Song to learn.

Children in nursery enjoyed the video today and then exploring Chinese artefacts...

Minu is on the blog today demonstrating a simple Chinese Noodle dish that she makes at home.

So this week there is plenty for children to learn, they discover Chinese New Year, learn a dragon song, make a paper dragon. Listen to the story of the week and join our live Zoom sessions.

Do keep your pictures coming in.
