Thursday 23rd September

Thursday 23rd September 2021

Good afternoon everyone,

Tomorrow Helen Jenner the consultant who is leading the consultation on the proposed federation of the two nursery schools will be in the playground between 9 and 10 a.m. to answer any questions you may have.

In nursery today children continued with all the activities that were started this week, large scale construction, creative modelling, paint mixing, playdough making and the mud kitchen, however, in addition children were introduced to the musical instruments. They had lots of fun exploring the different sounds and playing a listening game to identify the instrument being played.

Listening to music and exploring sound has an important place in nursery and is proven to speed up brain development, a five-year study by the University of Southern California found that young children who played musical instruments had an increase in brain development. This was particularly in the areas of language, speech, listening and reading skills.

Identifying the sounds of instruments is part of our phase one phonics programme and therefore a music trolley with instruments is always available to children both indoors and out.

There was also plenty of interest in sand play today, with one group setting up their own ice cream making factory in the sand tray.

Have a lovely evening.

What is happening in the sand tray?
