Thursday 25th November 2021

Good afternoon everyone,

Today we had a really lovely outing to Mudchute farm. The children enjoyed seeing all the animals, for some children it was the first time they had been up close with real live farm animals.

Our book of the week is Mr Gumpy’s Motor Car by John Burningham. Click on the link below if you would like to listen to the story at home. In nursery children enjoyed retelling the story in their own words and taking on the various roles. Retelling a story is an important evidenced based strategy that we use a lot in the early years.

By engaging the children in retelling stories read to them we aim to promote story-related comprehension and expressive vocabulary. We encourage the children to use their imagination, expand their ideas, and create visual images of the story as they transfer the plot to new settings often inventing different characters or giving them new voices.

During a retelling we scaffold children’s engagement in the story by asking open-ended questions, asking them to make predictions, and engaging them in verbal elaborations. Outdoors children continued exploring the car ramps and enjoyed parachute and ring games.

Red class were busy making biscuits, they were excited to use transport cutter on their dough.

Don’t forget tomorrow we have our sponsored cycle ride, children can bring their bike or scooter to nursery and see how manty of the playground they can do.

Have a lovely evening.
