Children's House Nursery School opened on 24 October 1923.
The founders, Doris and Muriel Lester worked tirelessly as social reformers, pacifists and non-conformists.
It was Doris' dream to build a school for the children of Bow, based on Maria Montessori's pedagogy. "Nothing is too good for the children of Bow!" said Doris Lester of the community.
The first stone was laid in a ceremony on 11 April 1923 and the school was opened later that year by writer, HG Wells.
The current Children's House community remain so proud of our school. As we mark our 100th year, we have been looking at photographs and documents that have been preserved and handed down and a few tears have been shed just recognising the long history this fantastic school has had on the community.
We are currently developing this page and would love to hear from previous pupils, families, staff and members of the community: we are currently collating memories, thoughts and photographs.
We will be working with local historians and museums to find a way to best present and celebrate our school community.

Also enjoy our blog which documents our wonderful Centenary Party on 29 June 2024 by clicking here.
In the meantime, please enjoy the incredible photographs and articles, some of which date back 100 years.
What has struck the team here today in 2024, is our principles are still the same as Doris and her sister back in 1923 and we are so grateful to them for their vision.
There is more information about our founders here.
