Head Lice & Treatment

Head Lice and nits are very common in young children. They are passed from head to head and have nothing to do with having dirty hair (in fact they love clean hair!)

If you notice your child scratching their head a lot or you notice tiny lice or nits (their eggs) do not panic! But you must treat the condition as it will only get worse.

How do I treat it?
  1. Go to the pharmacy and buy a nit comb (these are not expensive and are very fine toothed combs that will remove the lice or nits from the hair.)
  2. Wash your child's hair with shampoo.
  3. Apply condition (lots of it) and leave it in.
  4. Using the nit comb, comb from root to tip and wipe the conditioner off the comb each time on some tissue (dispose of this later).
  5. Repeat every 4 days for 2 weeks for the whole family.
  6. If there are still lice/eggs after this, please visit your pharmacists to get some alternative treatment.  You do not need to see a GP.
  7. Tie long hair up. Do not share hats and avoid head to head contact!

Please speak to any member of staff if you are worried.
